There are about 10 craftsmen making these karakuri puzzle boxes and most of them are easy to open, that is because many craftsmen prefer making those puzzle boxes with unique design and visually attractive puzzle boxes.
But some others also like to make very complicated and difficult puzzle boxes and I personally like to challange those difficult ones.
New Himitsubako currently comes in 4 different series starting from No.1 to No.4.
No.1 is the easiest puzzle box with only 6 moves and No. 2 opens with 12 moves.
No.3 requires 18 moves to open, but all of these three types are not that difficult and basically the same moves.
The reason why it is called New is unlike the traditional himitsubako puzzle box, you can move all 6 surfaces (as for traditional ones, there are always certain areas which you cannot move). Good thing about the New Himitsubako puzzle box is that as you open the box, you can see the mechanical area of the box.
wow! It's beautiful, isn't it! I love it.
This is the New Himitsubako No.4.
The No.4 was created 2 years ago and they totally changed the mechanism. You have to slide at least 32 times to open.
To open the box, you need to go back to move forward and there is a certain sequence to move the plates.
Most people spend more than an hour to open the box trying to figure out the sequence, but some people manage to open it within 30 min.
I personally spend around 2 hours to try to open it, but I could not figure it out, so I eventurely cheated to open (all of the puzzle boxes come with the instructions).
The best part of possessing the puzzle boxes is the observation of people trying to open those boxes, so you can let your friends try to open them and you can enjoy watching them as they suffer from the challenge. You can often tell the personality of those playing with the puzzle boxes by observing them how they manage to handle with the difficult situation!
