As for Hakone Himitsubako or Secret box, the moving parts that slide along the grooves are called "aruki," which means "walk" in English.
In this particular work, the "aruki" moves in an unconventional direction.
It might be easier to understand the structure compare to the "New Secret Box" (NS-1-2), which was created by the Karakuri Creation Group.
This unique movement of this box reminded him of the famous Moonwalk dance step, so he decided to call this box after that.
To prevent the lid from accidentally sliding unintentionally to open in the middle of solving it, he introduce a brand-new mechanism to prevent the wrong move.
His works always amuse me with his creative puzzle moves and this box is very much Mr. Kawashima's work I would say.
It is not that difficult, but I like the mechanism and how neatly it is made and I hope you do too.
